About
Pete Dulin is a freelance writer, editor, and photographer based in Kansas City. I write about food and people involved with food from farm to table in greater Kansas City and beyond. For clients, I also write about home design, community leaders, and local businesses in Kansas City. For fun, I interview people that fascinate me.

Random Biographical Notes
Freelance writer/editor with fifteen years of experience.
Earned MFA in writing, literature, and publishing at Emerson College in Boston.
I founded and published PresentMagazine.com (2005-2011) with co-publisher Pam Taylor. As an online editor, writer and photographer, I covered Kansas City’s food, music, arts and community scene.
I am a former sous chef/cook that worked at Le Fou Frog in Kansas City, a gourmet deli in Boston, a hotel restaurant in KC, and for caterers in both cities.
In a Hemingway-inspired adventure, I once fished for squid at night on a fishing trawler in the Gulf of Thailand near Hua Hin with Thai relatives. Rolling waves, a curry dinner, and Thai whiskey do not mix well. After offering the contents of my stomach to the god of the sea, I did catch squid by the end of the night to salvage a small measure of manliness.
Also, I cook, play sand volleyball, rally behind the Kansas City Chiefs, enjoy craft beer and wine, and support KC food, art, and music.
He Said/She Said – Quotes About My Work
“Pete has the rare gift of producing something amazing out of practically nothing. He is the MacGyver of cooking and has done the same with building PresentMagazine.com to where it is today in such a short time. Pete seems to be able to get the most creative folks to come out of the woodwork and work with him to create the amazing. You won’t regret it for a minute if you receive an opportunity to work with him.” – Eric Schotland, Eric Schotland design
“Pete interviewed me a few years ago for an article on an exhibition at Blue Gallery for PresentMagazine.com. I am impressed with his ease and professionalism. He is one of the finest writers I know.” – Kelly Kuhn, Owner, Blue Gallery
“Too many editors are mere wordsmiths or style-conscious followers. Pete Dulin has a much deeper understanding and appreciation of the written word. He’s more concerned with story, rhythm and being sensitive to his writers’ abilities to tell what happened in their own voice. He’s encouraging at the same time as curious to help them discover their talents.” – Kevin Kuzma, Communications Manager, PlattForm Advertising
“Pete’s narratives, attention to detail and commitment to exploring various local subjects of interest in a positive light make for engaging stories and phenomenal journalism.” – Andrew Zender, Development Communications Coordinator at the Kansas State University Foundation
“I knew Pete both as a student and as an advisor when he was an editorial intern at The Pohly Company, and he was memorable in both roles. He has a talent for the language, high standards, and a sense of responsibility that extends beyond refining a text to include oft-neglected pesky details like factual accuracy. He’s not only an editor’s editor, he’s also a fine writer. It’s great to see him putting his talents to good use.” – Karen English, Adjunct professor, Emerson College
