During American Craft Beer Week, I discussed KC Ale Trail with a small group at Kansas City Bier Company. Each person received a signed copy of the book. James Stutsman, marketing manager for the brewery, also gave a tour, poured bier samples and answered questions about the beers and brewery.
The event was a fun, low-key way to learn, socialize and enjoy fresh, locally-made craft beer. KC Bier Company will soon release Der Bauer (The Farmer), a German Farmhouse Ale that is smooth, aromatic and more subtle than Boulevard’s Tank 7. We sampled Der Bauer straight from the tank. I don’t want to describe it in too much detail because the beer is still conditioning. This first special release is based on a recipe developed by the brewery’s master brewer. KC Bier’s other biers were developed from owner Steve Holle’s recipes.
It’s an exciting sign of the brewery’s growth as they prepare to further expand across the greater Kansas City market. The brewery’s biers are on tap at many bars and restaurants on both sides of the state line. When the weather is sunny and warm, pop over to the beer hall and garden for a pint or two. It’s a great place to relax, dine on a brat and make friends.
